US Approves $7 Billion Arms Sale to Israel

A Major Arms Deal Improving US-Irael Relations

US government’s arms deal with Israel. This has been made under the Trump administration. The deal is worth $7 billion. This deal strengthens the military alliance with Israel. The deal was announced, and the Hellfire missiles or bombs are to be sold without any congressional review, which raises the question of transparency with regards to the deal. The recent meeting where the Israeli Prime Minister met President Trump also came in the fine print of the deal.

    Arms Sale with Strategic Implications

Precision guided munition which includes Joint Direct Attack Munition JDAM kits is part of the arms package. Thus arms facilitate the strategic operation by Israel. Also, the United States had acted as the highest supplier of defense to Israel with an estimation of $3.8 billion worth of military aid every year. Earlier, Biden’s administration had approved another arms deal worth $20 billion, including F-35 fighter jets and missiles.

    Arguments for Unreviewed Arms Sales

In addition, the selling of arms strengthens defense of Israel, but some people feel that it needs further congressional discussion. Opponents are most vocal in arguing that it creates a perilous precedent. It could also worsen the already existing tensions in the regional context. However, proponents cite the requirement for the climate of military assistance to ensure that the interest of security in Israel is guaranteed and it keeps peace in the Middle East.

Take Home Point Strategic Support or Highly Controversial Move

The sales of military arms carry the commitment of America for Israel. However, increasing military transaction sales also account for rising worries over their impact geopolitically in the longer run. Hereafter, conversations about legislative oversight and regional security will play a major role in determining US foreign policy in the future.
