ISLAMABAD: The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority has directed oil marketing companies to maintain uninterrupted fuel supply amid potential market sensitivities, strengthening field monitoring to protect consumers and ensure retail price compliance.
The directive, issued by OGRA, urges all (42) oil marketing companies (OMCs) including Pakistan State Oil Company, Attock Petroleum Limited, Gas and Oil Pakistan Ltd (GO)Parco Gunvor Limited, Hascol Petroleum Limited etc to ensure smooth nationwide distribution of petrol and high-speed diesel without artificial shortages, overcharging, or hoarding risks.
In the communication circulated to multiple OMCs operating across Pakistan, the regulator emphasized that sufficient petroleum product stocks are available in the country. Any disruption in supply chains or non-compliance with notified retail prices will be treated seriously under applicable regulations.
The regulator warned that creating artificial shortages or manipulating market conditions would violate provisions of the relevant petroleum regulatory framework, including the enforcement regime under Pakistan’s oil sector rules.
OMCs have been instructed to strictly sell petroleum products at prescribed retail prices and avoid overcharging consumers at fuel stations. Companies were also asked to mobilize and deploy field monitoring teams for regular inspection of outlets.
The monitoring teams will focus on ensuring continuous availability of petrol and diesel across retail networks, especially in sensitive market situations that could trigger panic buying or speculative stocking.
The directive comes as part of measures to maintain market stability, safeguard consumer interests, and strengthen regulatory oversight of downstream petroleum operations in Pakistan.
Officials said enforcement teams of the authority have already been mobilized to observe on-ground fuel supply and pricing conditions, particularly in Islamabad and other major consumption centres.
The regulator reiterated that any complaint regarding supply disruption, hoarding, or overcharging would be addressed promptly under the legal and operational framework governing the petroleum sector.
