Express Media Group launches English news channel amid Pakistan’s broader global media push

Express Media Group has launched a new English-language news channel, Express 24/7, marking a significant expansion of its multi-platform media presence and an effort to reach wider domestic and international audiences.

The development was announced by Azfar Nizami, Executive Director at the group, who described the move as part of a broader strategy to diversify content delivery across languages, formats, and audience segments.

With the addition of Express 24/7, the group’s portfolio now caters to a broader spectrum of viewers, enhancing its reach while creating deeper integration opportunities for advertisers and partners. The channel is positioned to strengthen the group’s footprint in English-language journalism, a space increasingly seen as critical for global engagement.

The launch comes amid a wider shift in Pakistan’s media landscape, where both public and private sector initiatives are aligning with efforts to project the country’s narrative more effectively on the international stage.

Over the past year, officials and journalists indicate that there has been growing encouragement for the development of English-language media platforms that can communicate Pakistan’s perspective to global audiences. This push is part of a broader strategy to reposition the country as a key diplomatic and strategic partner to Western nations, including under the administration of Donald Trump.

The effort has also included the revamp of Pakistan Television Corporation, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the role of digital media in countering external narratives and promoting Pakistan’s viewpoint internationally.

Recent media coverage trends suggest a sharper editorial focus on regional dynamics, particularly relations with India and the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan. English-language outlets have increasingly reflected official positions on cross-border developments, especially in the context of security and military operations.

According to officials familiar with the initiative, the renewed focus on international media engagement gained urgency following last year’s military standoff with India, when Pakistani authorities assessed that global and social media narratives were dominated by pro-India perspectives.

Analysts note that while launches like Express 24/7 are driven by commercial considerations, they are unfolding within a broader environment where media expansion, digital outreach, and state communication strategies are becoming more closely intertwined.
