The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet approved Rs5.1 billion in Technical Supplementary Grants (TSGs) on Wednesday, covering national immunisation, education, and security programmes, the Finance Division said.

The ECC, chaired by Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, sanctioned Rs2.8 billion for the Federal Directorate of Immunisation to support the national programme immunising over eight million children against vaccine-preventable diseases. The funds will facilitate pooled procurement of vaccines, syringes, and Cold Chain Equipment Optimisation Platform (CCEOP) in coordination with provincial authorities.

The committee also approved Rs2 billion for the Federal Education and Professional Training Division to be used under priority initiatives such as the establishment of Daanish School, Kuri, Islamabad, and the Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Programme under NAVTTC, aimed at improving youth employability. The allocation has been generated through adjustments within the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

A Rs306 million grant was approved for the Airports Security Force under the Defence Division to meet obligations including payments under the Prime Minister’s Assistance Package, Leave Preparation Reserve encashment, and Travelling and Daily Allowances.

Separately, the ECC approved amendments to the Import Policy Order (IPO) 2022 for Areca nut (betel nut), a high-demand commodity in the domestic market. The revised framework, approved by the Prime Minister, introduces pre-shipment inspections and enhanced regulatory oversight to ensure phytosanitary and food safety compliance, minimise trade disputes, and align imports with international best practices.

The ECC emphasised robust monitoring and tracking of fund utilisation, including clear performance benchmarks and reporting mechanisms, to ensure transparency, efficiency, and alignment with intended outcomes.
