Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Monday held talks with Jane Marriott on Pakistan’s economic reform programme, bilateral cooperation and regional developments, with discussions focusing on macroeconomic stability, fiscal reforms and external sector pressures.

According to a statement, Aurangzeb shared the government’s assessment of the evolving global economic environment and its implications for Pakistan, particularly amid regional geopolitical tensions and volatility in international energy markets.

The finance minister said the government remained focused on maintaining macroeconomic stability and sustaining structural reforms aimed at strengthening long-term economic resilience and growth.

He highlighted improvements in several economic indicators, including stability in the external account, continued growth in remittance inflows and rising investor confidence.

Aurangzeb also briefed the British envoy on measures being implemented to widen the tax net, improve revenue mobilisation, strengthen compliance and enhance transparency through digitisation and technology-driven reforms.

The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, policy continuity and structural reforms, including efforts to improve public sector efficiency, strengthen institutional coordination and support private sector-led investment and economic activity.

Discussions also covered communication and public engagement strategies linked to sustaining support for the reform process.

Regional and international developments, including their humanitarian and economic implications, also came under discussion, with both sides emphasising the importance of dialogue, international cooperation and coordinated efforts to address risks to economic stability and global supply chains.

The meeting further reviewed cooperation in areas including climate resilience, population planning, social sector coordination and engagement with international financial institutions.

The British High Commissioner reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s support for Pakistan’s reform efforts and development priorities and appreciated Pakistan’s continued engagement on regional matters.

Both sides concluded the meeting by expressing commitment to strengthening Pakistan-UK cooperation across economic, institutional and development sectors.
