Pakistan is set to see a slow recovery from drought conditions as rainfall and snowfall are forecasted due to a strong westerly wind system moving in from today to 22nd February 2023.
Effects of the Westerly Wind System
The westward-moving wind will affect about 70 to 80% of the northern regions of Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The system is expected to bring rain, ranging from moderate to heavy intensity, and snow in isolated mountainous regions.
Possible Impact on Balochistan and Sindh
Sindh is not expected to get rain; however, big amounts of rain and snowfall will be experienced in Balochistan. While the towns of Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Qila Saifullah, and Khuzdar may receive snowfall, rain is expected to fall in Gwadar, Pasni, Turbat, Odmara, and some others, with hails storms also possible across some areas of Balochistan.
Rain Forecast in Punjab and Islamabad
From February 19th to 21st, moderate showers are expected in parts of Punjab, particularly in its southern and central regions, with possible hailstorms in a few areas. Islamabad is likely to witness two to three spells of rain, along with nearby areas.
