Approval and Distribution
Indus River System Authority has given the green light for the provision of 450,000 acre-feet of water for the Cholistan project. A certificate of water availability has been issued to the Punjab province by IRSA so that the excavation of the Cholistan Canal from Suleiman Headworks of the Sutlej might commence.
Green Pakistan Initiative
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Army Chief General Asim Munir attended the launch of the-new ‘Green Pakistan’ project in Cholistan. These have been complemented by other significant agricultural initiatives, such as Green Agri Mall, Smart Agri Farm, and Agricultural Research and Facilitation Center, which were inaugurated to support farmers with quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.
Protest in Sindh
Meanwhile, a number of parties in Sindh are opposing the diversion of canals from Indus River in the name of distribution of water.
