Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, emphasized that lasting peace in South Asia is impossible without resolving the core dispute of Jammu and Kashmir.
In an interview with a British media outlet, he highlighted that the Kashmir issue must be addressed in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Ambassador Iftikhar also acknowledged the positive role played by US President Donald Trump in facilitating a ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining a permanent ceasefire, although he noted that the situation remains fragile and uncertain.
He underlined that the Kashmir conflict is a crucial unresolved issue between the neighboring countries and stressed that its resolution should reflect the will of the Kashmiri population for peace and stability in the region.
