Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry have commended Iran’s peace efforts amid rising tensions between Pakistan and India. Both leaders highlighted Iran’s vital role in promoting dialogue and de-escalating conflict during recent hostilities triggered by the deadly Pahalgam attack in occupied Kashmir.
In a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, PM Shehbaz extended warm regards to Supreme Leader Ayatullah Khamenei and expressed gratitude for Iran’s sincere diplomatic support. The Iranian president’s outreach, including sending Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to the region, was especially acknowledged.
PM Shehbaz strongly condemned India’s unprovoked attacks on Pakistani civilians and affirmed that Pakistan’s military response was measured yet decisive. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace, the existing ceasefire agreement, and its resolve to protect national sovereignty.
The prime minister also voiced concern over India’s attempt to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it an unlawful action that crosses a “red line” for Pakistan, as the treaty’s waters are vital for the country’s survival. He emphasized that resolving the Kashmir dispute according to UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people is essential for lasting peace in South Asia.
Iran’s president expressed condolences for civilian casualties and welcomed the ceasefire, affirming Iran’s dedication to regional stability. The two leaders agreed to boost cooperation in trade, connectivity, security, and people-to-people relations, with PM Shehbaz accepting an invitation for an official visit to Tehran.
Lt Gen Chaudhry praised Iran and other brotherly nations for their support, warning of forces trying to sow discord between Pakistan and Iran. He highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two countries and their shared commitment to peaceful and friendly borders.
The military spokesperson underscored that Iran and Pakistan continue to collaborate for lasting peace and stability in the region, recognizing Iran’s role in calming tensions following the dangerous military exchanges between India and Pakistan in early May.
This growing partnership signals a hopeful path toward regional harmony, with Iran playing a key mediating role during one of South Asia’s most volatile moments in recent years.
