BEIJING: President Xi Jinping has underscored the importance of a careful, democratic, and law-based approach in crafting China’s 15th Five-Year Plan for national economic and social development. His remarks came as preparations begin for the plan covering 2026 to 2030.
Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, stressed that well-designed and consistently implemented five-year plans are a cornerstone of the CPC’s governance strategy.
He highlighted the critical role of the 15th Five-Year Plan in achieving the strategic goals set out at the 20th CPC National Congress and advancing China’s modernization efforts. Xi called for integrating top-level planning with broad public consultation, thorough research, and building wide consensus.
The drafting process is currently underway, with the CPC Central Committee organizing proposals and various departments preparing to gather input from officials, experts, scholars, and the public through multiple channels ahead of the plan’s launch in 2026.
