The Sindh High Court on Saturday ordered the submission of appointment records in a petition challenging the promotion of Syed Mustafa Hassan to administrator of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD).
The petitioner contended that Hassan, initially hired as an assistant engineer with a mechanical diploma at Grade 11, was unlawfully promoted to Grade 18 without proper procedure. It was alleged that no job advertisement was issued during his recruitment and that his promotions overlooked his original maintenance-related duties.
The court issued notices to relevant authorities, directing them to provide all documentation related to Hassan’s appointments and promotions.
In a related development, a sessions court in Karachi issued notices to police officials following a petition filed by student Atiya Tariq, who accused NICVD staff of assault.
Tariq alleged she was attacked after attempting to record a video of her mother being denied treatment. She claimed that a guard verbally abused her, then four men and a woman confined and assaulted her, also taking Rs50,000 from her purse. Despite identifying the accused, Tariq said police refused to file her complaint, prompting the court’s intervention.
