Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT) has issued an urgent warning following a massive global data breach that exposed 184 million unique account credentials, including usernames, passwords, and email addresses tied to major platforms like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. Sensitive government portals, banking, and healthcare systems were also compromised.
The breach occurred through infostealer malware, which collected data stored in plain text—making it easily accessible to cybercriminals. This puts users at high risk of cyberattacks such as credential stuffing, identity theft, ransomware, and phishing scams, with serious implications for both individuals and critical infrastructure.
NCERT has classified the threat as high risk and advises everyone to immediately change passwords, enable multi-factor authentication, remain alert to phishing attempts, and use trusted password managers. Organizations are urged to strengthen security policies, monitor for suspicious activity, and prepare incident response plans to address potential breaches.
This breach highlights the urgent need for Pakistan’s citizens and organizations to act quickly to secure their digital identities and prevent further exploitation.
