The Sindh government has kicked off a large-scale polio vaccination campaign aiming to immunize more than 10.6 million children under five across 30 districts by June 1. Over 80,000 trained health workers will conduct door-to-door visits, supported by 25,539 security personnel, to ensure the safety and reach of the drive.
Alongside polio drops, children aged six to 59 months will receive Vitamin A supplements to strengthen their immunity. This campaign follows successful rounds earlier this year and is critical to eradicating polio in the province and nationwide.
Despite progress, environmental tests in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Larkana still detect traces of the virus, with four polio cases reported in Sindh so far this year. The Emergency Operations Centre stresses that the global presence of poliovirus continues to threaten children in Pakistan.
Parents and community leaders are urged to support the campaign actively. Children who miss vaccinations can contact the helpline at 1166 or WhatsApp 0346-7776546 for assistance.
