In a focused effort to stabilise the market and curb profiteering, the Punjab government has distributed over 811,000 flour bags across the province in the last 24 hours. The distribution includes 240,705 flour bags in the Lahore Division alone, reflecting a strong push to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential commodities.

The Secretary Price Control, Dr. Kiran Khurshid, confirmed that the arrival of imported sugar is expected to alleviate availability issues and improve price stability in the coming days. During a high-level meeting chaired by Dr. Khurshid, deputy commissioners and food directorate officers from all districts were briefed about the ongoing efforts to maintain market stability.

Dr. Khurshid reiterated that illegal hoarding and price manipulation will not be tolerated and emphasized the importance of maintaining the sale of flour and sugar at official rates. Currently, a 10 kg flour bag is priced at Rs 905, and the 20 kg bag is sold at Rs 1,810. Strict enforcement of these rates will be ensured, with stern action taken against violators.

Simultaneously, the crackdown on profiteering has been intensified, with Price Control Magistrates conducting 525,187 inspections in the past 24 hours. These inspections led to fines for 12,100 profiteers, 26 cases registered, and 149 arrests. Specific targets included essential items like flour, chicken, and sugar. A total of 691 fines were imposed on profiteers in 48,024 flour-related inspections, while chicken shop inspections resulted in 1,528 fines, 4 cases, and 10 arrests.

Additionally, 17,086 inspections of hotels and tandoors resulted in 670 fines, 8 FIRs, and 41 arrests. Sugar pricing was closely monitored, with 834 fines and 18 arrests from 14,678 inspections. The crackdown is part of a province-wide strategy to eliminate hoarding and price manipulation, with the performance of Price Control Magistrates being tracked through geo-tagging technology to ensure transparency and accountability.
