The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has cleared 45 major projects worth over Rs66 billion, with schemes spread across health, transport, agriculture, livestock, irrigation, population welfare and infrastructure.
The fourth PDWP meeting, chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Ikramullah Khan, was attended by working party members and senior officials of relevant departments, an official statement said on Sunday.
Acting on the special directives of Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, the forum approved a Rs1 billion project for the beautification of Peshawar, including road upgrades, new street furniture, rehabilitation of streetlights, and improved green belts to enhance both the city’s aesthetic and functional outlook.
In the agriculture sector, projects were sanctioned to expand cultivation on dry lands in southern districts, increase sunflower output, and promote modern farm machinery.
For the merged districts, livestock initiatives such as artificial insemination and cross-breeding with high-quality foreign breeds were approved to boost productivity and improve household incomes.
Road infrastructure and connectivity dominated the portfolio, with feasibility and construction work cleared for bypass routes from Kurram Pul to Miranshah via Kot Brara and via Hashni Kala, the dualisation of Provincial Highway S-8 in Dera Ismail Khan, and the improvement of the Zafarabad irrigation channel from Dakhan Bypass.
According to officials, the approved schemes are designed to stimulate economic growth, improve service delivery, and raise public welfare across the province.
