Bird-aircraft collisions at Jinnah Airport drop over 15% in 2024

The Environmental Control Committee (ECC) at Jinnah International Airport reported a more than 15% decline in bird-aircraft collisions in 2024, attributing the reduction to aggressive habitat control and community engagement efforts.

The committee also noted a continued decrease in incidents in 2025.

Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, the ECC focused on cleanliness and bird hazard prevention measures, deciding to include related messages in Friday prayers and Eid sermons at nearby mosques.

A public awareness campaign will be launched immediately, with informational pamphlets distributed to local residents, hotels, restaurants, and shops, continuing efforts from previous years.

Airport management directed stakeholders to clean garbage collection points thoroughly and identify bird-attracting areas near the airport. Strict measures were ordered against vendors selling pigeon feed close to airport premises, which attract birds.

The ECC emphasized strengthening habitat control to prevent bird nesting near airside operations. The Pakistan Airports Authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean and safe airport environment through cooperation with local authorities and stakeholders during Eid-ul-Azha.
