China grants $6m to support housing reconstruction in Balochistan

Pakistan has received a $6 million grant from China to fund the construction of houses in Balochistan, according to the Economic Affairs Division’s monthly foreign economic assistance report for July 2025.

Adviser to Finance Minister Khurram Shehzad told Wealth Pakistan that the Chinese assistance is aimed at rebuilding homes in Balochistan, a province frequently devastated by floods and other natural disasters. He said the contribution highlights China’s commitment to Pakistan’s development and will strengthen housing and infrastructure capacity in one of the country’s most vulnerable regions.

Shehzad added that the aid will directly benefit displaced families by providing them with durable housing solutions in the aftermath of environmental calamities. The initiative, he noted, is aligned with Pakistan’s broader reconstruction and recovery strategies, where international partnerships — particularly with China — play a central role.

Prominent economist Dr. Nadeem-ul-Haq told Wealth Pakistan that the grant is likely to spur local economic activity, generate employment, and build community resilience, paving the way for further infrastructure development.

The $6 million package forms part of China’s wider development assistance to Pakistan, which extends beyond housing to include investments in infrastructure, energy, and scientific research. Strong bilateral ties between the two countries continue to underpin Pakistan’s economic progress, with Beijing remaining a major partner in development initiatives.
