ISLAMABAD: The government’s three-year industrial concessional electricity package generated Rs12.125 billion in relief over two months, benefiting 46 percent of industrial consumers through discounted surplus power aimed at lowering production costs.
According to official data released by the spokesperson, 127,686 out of 278,961 industrial consumers availed the three-year long-term concessional package during December 2025 and January 2026. Under the policy framework, industries received a benefit of Rs10.3 per unit on surplus electricity consumption, aimed at reducing input costs and enhancing competitiveness.
During the two-month period, 1,176 million units were sold under the surplus package, accounting for 23.80 percent of total industrial electricity sales. The figures indicate growing alignment between surplus generation management and industrial demand stimulation, a key objective of the Power Division’s reform agenda.
In December 2025, 557 million units were supplied under the arrangement, representing 23 percent of total industrial consumption for the month and translating into Rs5.743 billion in relief. A total of 125,829 consumers — 45 percent of the industrial base — benefited during that month.
The upward trajectory continued in January 2026, when 619 million units were sold under the package, accounting for 24.5 percent of total industrial electricity sold. Financial relief reached Rs6.382 billion, with the number of beneficiaries increasing to 127,686, or 46 percent of total industrial consumers.
It is pertinent to mention here that the surplus electricity initiative forms a central component of the government’s broader power sector optimization strategy, designed to absorb excess generation capacity while directly lowering production costs for industry. The spokesperson reiterated that Federal Minister for Power Division, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, is personally overseeing implementation and regularly reviewing progress to ensure sustained delivery of results.
