Iran Air launches first-ever Quetta flight, strengthening Pakistan-Iran regional connectivity

In a landmark step toward enhancing regional air connectivity, Iran Air’s inaugural Flight 826 (A319) on the Mashhad–Zahedan–Quetta route landed at Quetta International Airport late Wednesday night to a grand Water Cannon Salute, marking the airline’s first operation to Balochistan’s capital.

The inaugural ceremony, held at the State Lounge, was attended by Governor of Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhel as the chief guest, alongside the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran and dignitaries from the diplomatic, civil aviation, and business sectors.

The event began with the national anthems of both Pakistan and Iran, underscoring the shared spirit of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

In his address, Governor Mandokhel termed the launch “a significant milestone” in advancing bilateral relations, trade, and cultural exchange. “This flight not only strengthens people-to-people ties but also opens new avenues for tourism, pilgrimage, and commerce,” he said, expressing hope that the initiative would boost regional integration.

The Consul General of Iran reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening economic and social linkages with Pakistan, particularly through improved transport and communication networks.

According to official details, Iran Air Flight 826 will operate once a week, every Wednesday, arriving in Quetta at 9:30 PM. On its maiden journey, the flight carried 30 passengers on arrival and 120 on departure, reflecting strong public interest in the new route.

A Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson called the occasion “a proud moment for Quetta International Airport,” adding that the new service would facilitate religious pilgrims, business travelers, and families on both sides of the border.

With the addition of Iran Air’s new service, Quetta continues to enhance its air connectivity, emerging as an important regional gateway for trade and cooperation across South and Central Asia.
