Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari has directed all electricity distribution companies (DISCOs), including K-Electric, to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Sehri and Iftar throughout the holy month of Ramadan, issuing strict instructions to avoid load-shedding during these peak religious hours.
According to officials, the Power Division has issued comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all power companies to ensure smooth electricity supply during Ramadan, particularly at times when electricity demand rises sharply due to domestic usage during Sehri and Iftar.
The minister has also instructed all DISCOs to ensure immediate redressal of consumer complaints and improve coordination with field formations to prevent unnecessary disruptions. He emphasized that electricity consumers must not face hardship during Ramadan and directed power companies to remain fully operational and responsive during the month.
In a key directive, Leghari ordered the CEOs of all DISCOs to establish dedicated control rooms to monitor power supply and address public complaints on a real-time basis. The control rooms will remain active throughout Ramadan to ensure quick action against faults, breakdowns, and supply interruptions.
The Power Division stated that special attention will be given to high-loss areas, where electricity theft and non-payments remain major concerns. However, despite the losses, the government has decided not to conduct load-shedding during Sehri and Iftar even in these high-loss areas.
Instead, the minister directed that load management in such areas should be adjusted during other hours of the day, ensuring that religious timings remain protected. The move aims to balance consumer relief with operational requirements of the power sector.
The minister further ordered DISCOs to deal with high-loss areas strictly under the ongoing anti-power theft campaign, stressing that theft and illegal connections will not be tolerated. He directed authorities to intensify enforcement measures while maintaining uninterrupted supply during critical Ramadan hours.
Sources of power division said that the main objective of this decision is to prevent an increase in circular debt, power sector losses, and outstanding dues during Ramadan, while ensuring maximum public facilitation.
Moreover, DISCOs have been instructed to strictly avoid unannounced load-shedding and ensure that any required load management is carried out transparently and in accordance with the issued SOPs.
The Power Division reiterated that Ramadan relief measures are being implemented to ensure public convenience and avoid disruption during religious practices, adding that performance of DISCOs will be monitored closely during the holy month.
