The National Assembly has handed Rs472.1 million to the treasury under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s austerity measures, the NA Secretariat said Friday.
Member salaries were cut by Rs21 million and deposited into the Prime Minister’s Austerity Fund 2026, the Secretariat added.
Fuel conservation steps include a four-day workweek for government offices, a 50% reduction in fuel allocation for official vehicles, and work-from-home arrangements for half of staff in public and private offices, excluding essential services.
Seventy-five percent of NA official vehicles have been grounded to save fuel, and energy needs are met via the Green Parliament Solar System.
Only 200 secretariat employees remain on duty to reduce costs further.
The austerity measures aim to save up to Rs2 billion through rationalised spending and enhanced resource management during the remainder of the fiscal year.
Earlier in March, the Senate contributed Rs265 million to the national exchequer under the same initiative.
