PTA, Climate Ministry join hands to promote green ICT and sustainable digital growth

In a major step toward environmentally responsible digitization, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination (MoCC&EC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly promote Green ICT and develop climate-resilient digital infrastructure across Pakistan.

The collaboration aims to advance responsible e-waste management and encourage eco-friendly innovation through coordinated policy design, knowledge sharing, and joint programs.

According to a news release, the partnership will focus on energy-efficient telecom networks, sustainable ICT infrastructure, and capacity-building initiatives to reduce the environmental footprint of Pakistan’s expanding digital ecosystem.

Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, HI (M), SI, said the agreement represents a key milestone in embedding environmental responsibility within the country’s digital transformation. He noted that the initiative aligns with the Digital Pakistan Vision, Vision 2025, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

By reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to the ITU G5 Regulatory Framework, PTA said the partnership paves the way for a more sustainable, inclusive, and environmentally conscious digital future.
