ISLAMABAD (Monitoring Desk) : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday unveiled a Rs38 billion Ramazan Relief Package 2026aimed at providing financial assistance to low-income households across the country, including in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Under the programme, 12.1 million households will receive Rs13,000 per household through digital wallets during the month of Ramazan, according to the government announcement.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, the prime minister said the government faced several challenges in preparing the package, including issues related to banks’ willingness, lack of digital infrastructure in the country and related constraints involving the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

“This year, Rs38 billion has been allocated for this purpose,” he said.

Shehbaz Sharif noted that the assistance will be distributed not only in the four provinces but also in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, directly into beneficiaries’ digital wallets and bank accounts.

“Similarly, the stipend allocation has been increased to Rs10 billion,” he added.

The prime minister described the initiative as the largest such effort at the federal level during Ramazan in terms of both volume and logistical challenge.

“I will continue to conduct periodic reviews to ensure that these Rs38 billion are properly distributed,” he said.

The premier also thanked international partners for their role, saying: “I would also like to thank our international partners for their valuable contributions, interest, and concern. Together, we will achieve this landmark this month.”

The package reflects the government’s approach to delivering targeted support to vulnerable segments of the population through digital means during the holy month.
