UN Security Council to Vote Today
The UN Security Council will be voting today on two separate resolutions regarding the Ukraine war—one resolution is sponsored by Ukraine and the EU, while the other resolution, formally rather than politically motivated, has been sponsored by the US.
Differences in the Resolutions
The Ukraine-EU resolution calls for the withdrawal of Russian forces and explicitly labels it “Russian invasion.” The US, however, in its resolution, refers to the conflict as “the Russia-Ukraine conflict,” a clear step away from its earlier position on that particular subject.
Shifting US Policy on Ukraine
Mike Waltz, the US presidential adviser, proclaimed that the US was, just now, seriously reviewing its own Ukraine policy, including the aid priorities and its strategic resource contracts; this would signal a possible pivot in US support as tensions continue.
