JARANWALA The Faisalabad Waste Management Company has removed more than 615,400 tonnes of solid waste from sixteen tehsils in the past six months as part of the Punjab government’s “Suthra Punjab” initiative to improve urban cleanliness and achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Over fifteen thousand personnel, five thousand two hundred ninety nine waste containers, and three thousand fourteen machinery units were deployed to ensure regular waste collection from homes and public spaces.
A recent mid-year evaluation by Punjab’s Local Government Department ranked Bhowana tehsil in Chiniot district as the cleanest among one hundred thirty two tehsils in the province. Bhowana excelled in sanitation, operational efficiency, and complaint resolution. Jalalpur Pirwala and Bahawalnagar took second and third places respectively.
The control room monitoring showed twenty six tehsils scored above ninety percent efficiency, including seven from Faisalabad Division.
Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq emphasized the importance of monitoring for sustaining the initiative and highlighted that the new system aims to collect sixty thousand tons of waste daily, doubling the previous municipal capacity, while creating over one hundred thousand jobs through the outsourcing model.
FWMC CEO Rauf Ahmad credited Bhowana’s success to dedicated field staff and strong cooperation between provincial and district administrations.
