SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A powerful bomb targeted the vehicle of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Noorullah near Shahzad Madrassah, close to a police station in Azam Warsak market, Lower South Waziristan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Thursday, police reported.
The attack was aimed at Maulana Noorullah, who along with local party leaders Maulana Ishaq and Maulana Amanullah, was traveling at the time. Fortunately, all three escaped unharmed, and no casualties were reported. Security forces quickly secured the area and launched an investigation into the blast.
In a video message shared by JUI-F, Maulana Noorullah reassured supporters, saying, “We all are safe. We want peace in the country and protection for religious schools, mosques, and all Muslims.”
JUI-F leaders have been repeatedly targeted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in recent months. On March 14, a bomb exploded during Friday prayers at a mosque in South Waziristan, seriously injuring JUI district chief Abdullah Nadeem and three others.
On April 25, a roadside bomb near Kalat district killed a local JUI-F leader and two women, injuring five more. The explosion struck a pickup vehicle carrying eight people, driven by JUI-F union council member Maulana Abdullah Nachari.
Another deadly attack occurred on March 2 when two JUI-F leaders, Wadera Ghulam Sarwar and Molvi Amanullah, were assassinated in Khuzdar’s Zehri area. Unknown gunmen on motorcycles opened fire, killing both instantly and wounding their security guard.
These attacks highlight the persistent security challenges faced by JUI-F leaders across the region.
