BEIJING — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for strengthening ties to build a China-Pacific Island Countries (PICs) community with a shared future during the Third China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Xiamen, Fujian Province.
Wang outlined six key principles: mutual respect, prioritizing development cooperation, people-centered governance, promoting exchange and mutual learning, safeguarding equity and justice, and maintaining solidarity during challenges. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to non-interference and supporting the PICs in protecting their sovereignty and development interests.
Highlighting the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the PICs, Wang emphasized China’s view of these nations as close friends and partners. He announced plans to implement 200 livelihood projects this year and dispatch medical teams, including traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, to benefit local communities.
The ministers from Pacific Island Countries expressed appreciation for China’s longstanding support and underscored their cooperation is based on mutual trust, respect, and sovereign equality. They reaffirmed commitment to the one-China principle and expressed eagerness to expand collaboration on infrastructure, climate change, green development, and Belt and Road initiatives to foster a peaceful and prosperous Pacific region.
