Karachi has launched a major citywide crackdown on traffic violations, resulting in the impoundment of more than 43,000 motorcycles. This strict enforcement comes under the directive of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, aiming to ensure helmet use and enhance road safety.
From May 9 to May 16, Karachi Traffic Police seized 43,852 motorcycles mostly for helmet violations. The operation also targeted other vehicles, impounding nearly 4,000 cars with tinted windows or customized number plates, and 685 heavy and light vehicles for various offenses.
Officials raised concerns about vehicle fitness, recommending cancellation of registration for 25 unfit vehicles and temporary suspension for 663 others. In addition, 22 vehicles were issued formal challans for more serious violations.
A focused operation on Qingqi and motorcycle rickshaws, banned on eleven major roads, resulted in 194 FIRs, 434 arrests, and 25 confiscations of unregistered rickshaws. Authorities also took action against 377 vehicles with illegal LPG and CNG installations.
Overall, the campaign led to 12,183 traffic tickets being issued, reflecting the city’s intensified commitment to road safety. The chief minister emphasized that traffic regulations are critical for protecting the public and will be enforced without compromise.
