Storms, heavy rain, and power outages disrupt daily life across the province.
LAHORE: A tragic incident occurred in Sahiwal on Sunday when a 36-year-old man, identified as Ramzan, was killed by a lightning strike amid intense weather conditions sweeping across Punjab. The lightning strike happened as thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hailstorms affected several districts, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, and Narowal.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a province-wide alert, urging authorities and residents to remain vigilant due to the ongoing adverse weather, which is expected to persist until May 12. In Lahore, rain measurements varied, with Jail Road recording 3.8mm, and Gulberg and Lakshmi Chowk seeing 4mm and 3mm of rain, respectively.
The PDMA urged residents to stay indoors, avoid open areas, and keep a safe distance from electrical poles during thunderstorms. Additionally, the storms caused disruptions in power supply, tripping 30 feeders in Lahore. However, Lesco field teams worked quickly to restore power to affected areas.
