Singapore: A Singaporean, Birth Gopal, who is 29 years old, has been fined $4,000 for forging his grandfather’s death certificate in order to take time off from work.
Incident
In November 2023, he was in love with a woman and she had made him emotional by not being what she was supposed to be. Gopal, who works as a security financing operations analyst, applied for the leave of three days citing death of his grandfather. When asked for proof by the supervisor, he altered a real death certificate of a relative of a friend and submitted it.
Consequences
Frightened of being caught, Gopal resigned a few months later. Forgery under the law in Singapore will carry a penalty of up to $10,000 or imprisonment of 10 years. However, he was charged to pay $4,000 as the company also claimed damages for his leave.
