KARACHI: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a digital system to register births and deaths directly from hospitals and healthcare centers across Pakistan.
This modernization effort comes after agreements were signed between NADRA and provincial governments to upgrade civil registration systems. A formal ceremony in Karachi marked the launch, attended by Sindh’s health and local government secretaries, NADRA Sindh Director General Ehtesham Shahid, and Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani.
The digital initiative aims to provide timely, accurate, and complete recording of vital events into the national citizen database. It forms part of the broader “Udan Pakistan” programme, which promotes economic growth through technology and supports initiatives like digital ID services and the expansion of the digital economy.
In partnership with the World Bank, NADRA is advancing the “Digital Economy Enhancement Project” alongside multiple national institutions. A similar agreement was recently signed in Quetta between NADRA and the Balochistan government to implement this system in the province.
