Punjab Imposes Bans on Washing Cars at Home, with High Penalty Charges
This ban continues in a series of new measures by the Punjab government to conserve water, they have banned washing cars at homes and fine roadworthy violators.
Court Orders Followed by Environmental Regulations
Following orders from Lahore High Court, Punjab Environmental Protection Department issued notice of penalty to Rs. 10,000 for car wash without a house, and illegal service stations will shut down immediately.
Severe Reply to Servicing Stations
The service station not using a water reduction system would henceforth be liable to pay Rs 100000 fine. All service stations in Punjab, in line with the above said mandate, have been directed to install water recycling systems on or before February 28.
More Measures for Saving Water
The prohibition was also extended to ground water from construction sites and washing up vehicles with any other oil was prohibited further strengthening the effort of the government against wastage of water.
Judicial Oversight and Implementation
These measures were part of the judgments delivered last week by the Lahore High Court that instructed the authority to punish households and petrol pumps wasting water through car washes.
Thus, it further manifests the commitment of the Punjab Government for water conservation; it ensures the wise and sustainable use of this precious resource.
