Heavy Rains and Snowfall in Different Regions…
These rains come months after a lengthy dry spell and all major cities of Punjab, along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), received a wholesome amount of rain. The last area to be affected by rain after a long dry spell is the Nikyal area of Azad Kashmir, which went dry due to drought.
Rain Across Punjab and KP
Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujarat, and Hafizabad recorded light to moderate rains on Wednesday night. Rawalpindi experienced heavy monsoon rains for the first time in nearly four months. According to the Meteorological Department, 19 mm rain fell at Bokra, 22 mm at H8, 20 mm at Shamsabad, and 18 mm at Chaklala.
Forecast and Effects of Weather
The department forecasts another three days’ heavy rainfall, starting on Thursday, in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Snowfall is also ongoing in Murree and Galiyat, luring tourists. More rainfall and snowfall are likely today over Islamabad, Upper Punjab, KP, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, with hail chances in the Potohar region and northeastern Punjab.
Cold strengthens over KP and Azad Kashmir
Rainfall in Peshawar, Dir, and Khyber increased cold in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while snowfall occurred in Koh Safid. In Azad Kashmir, snow is being formed after a long drought period in Nikyal while drizzles and little snowfall are anticipated for the upper Neelum Valley.
