In Pattoki, a retired schoolteacher, Muhammad Zulfiqar, was found murdered after being kidnapped by a man to whom he had lent money. Zulfiqar’s wife, Naila Riaz, reported him missing when he failed to return from an errand. A suspect named Iqbal later appeared at their home, claiming Zulfiqar had left for an unknown destination.
Police registered a case, and Zulfiqar’s body was soon discovered in nearby fields with multiple stab wounds. Investigations revealed that Iqbal, who had borrowed Rs150,000 and been repaying the loan with interest for 19 months, killed Zulfiqar out of frustration over the ongoing payments.
Iqbal was arrested, confessed to the murder, and admitted to disposing of Zulfiqar’s mobile phone. The weapon used in the crime has been recovered, and legal action is underway.
