Royal biographer Katie Nicholl reveals that tensions during Meghan Markle’s wedding preparations grew so intense that Queen Elizabeth II felt the need to step in.
In Nicholl’s book The New Royals, she describes an incident at Windsor Castle during a menu tasting when Meghan reportedly became upset after tasting an egg in a dish meant to be vegan and macrobiotic. Sources say Meghan expressed her frustration sharply, prompting the Queen to intervene with a stern reminder: “Meghan, in this family we don’t speak to people like that.”
This episode adds to a series of reports criticizing Meghan’s behavior toward royal staff. In February, journalist Tom Quinn noted she was nicknamed the “Duchess of Difficult” for struggling with royal life’s strict demands. An anonymous insider described Meghan as oscillating between warmth and irritation when staff didn’t meet her expectations.
Meghan’s controversial reputation grew amid allegations of bullying, including accusations from 2018 about mistreatment of a young palace employee. After stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry moved to the U.S., shifting their public roles.
While Meghan’s representatives have yet to respond to these claims, her public image remains a mix of charitable efforts and ongoing scrutiny over her time within the royal family.
