The Taliban delegation from Afghanistan has landed in Japan for a week-long visit during its first official outing from the region since it assumed office.
Humanitarian Aid and Diplomatic Ties
Expected to participate in talks with Japanese officials are members of the delegation that includes representatives of ministries like higher education, foreign affairs, and economy. The expected discussions will center on humanitarian aid and possible establishment of diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and Japan.
Afghanistan Wants International Recognition
Latif Nazari, Afghanistan’s deputy minister of economy, said the Afghan government aims at building a kind of dignified relationship and wants to be an active member of the international community.
Past International Engagements
This year, they went to Norway in 2022 to 2023 for dual diplomatic talks. Aside from neighboring states, these include visits to Russia and China. Japan moved its embassy to Qatar after the Taliban takeover of Kabul in 2021, but resumed aid activities in Afghanistan.
